20th Pastoral Anniversary

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Our Pastor and Wife

Pastor Dayvid L. Griggs, Jr. and First Lady Renita Renae Griggs

The Anniversary Worship Service

It was a full festive evening of fashion, fellowship, food, family and friends as we honored our very own, Our Pastor Dayvid L. Griggs, Jr. and his lovely wife, Our First Lady Renita Renae Griggs on their 20th Pastoral Anniversary at Zion Baptist Church. The blessed day started with a powerful Sunday Morning Worship Service. Deacon Titus Brown and Sister Mae Brown were the Servants of Service and conducted the program. Pastor and Lady Griggs were featured in a video tribute. Lady Griggs was escorted in by Deacon Mike Popoola. Bro. Lonnie Lewis, Retired Master Chief, US Air Force, shared inspiring words of military family togetherness, culminating in the recognition of our active and veteran military servicemen and women.

Pastor Eric King, of the El Belthel Baptist Church in Overton, Texas, delivered an anointed word from heaven, reminding us the trials and sacrifices of being a Pastor; and the spouse of a pastor. Each auxiliary head made presentations to the honored couple, followed by individual ZBC members and families, lined up, to bless our Pastor. The Young Adult Ministry celebrated the honorees with their own original rap song featuring Rev. Temitayo Lawal and the crew. After the closing prayer everyone took photos in front of the beautiful Anniversary Wall Display created by Sis. Jessie Myers.

The Anniversary Banquet

As the afternoon embarked, guests began arriving at the Hilton Rockwall on beautiful Lake Ray Hubbard. They were treated to light snacks and water as they mingled in the reception hall. The banquet committee was hard at work, finalizing the room preparations for the arrival of the honored guest. The tables were decorated with white and black tablecloths and accented in the honoree colors of red and black. The air was filled with instrumental gospel sounds as the people began to enter and find their designated tables and seats. Bro. Harold Lacy and Evangelist Natalie MacMillan were the MCs for the event. Our own Mother Mae Miller offered a heartfelt welcome. Dinner was served and included a Garden Salad, your choice of Salmon or Roasted Chicken, with Quinoas and Steamed vegetable; with rolls and a variety of infused butters. Dessert was a Crème Brule.

Everyone was called to their feet as the Honorees made their entrance into the hall. Pastor Griggs wore a Red Tuxedo Jacket, white shirt and black slacks. First Lady Griggs wore a black full-length two-piece suit with a full wrap detachable shawl. They were a dazzling pair that had everyone oohing and awing as they stepped to their place at the head table. Rev. Rome Pettway and Sis. Edna Pettway offered a fitting tribute to the Honorees, before raising their glasses to toast our Pastor and his wife.

We were treated to music from recording artists, Tommie Young West, and Barbara Mitchell. And Pastor Marcus King, built on the message from his brother earlier, delivering a powerhouse word from God. As the evening progressed, The ZBC Fellowes serenaded First Lady Griggs with a personal rendition of ‘My Girl’. The evening was capped off by the much requested dance impersonation of James Brown, by our own Pastor Dayvid L. Griggs, Jr. to ‘I Feel good!’ We all felt good.

It was an awesome occasion of love, honor and praise to Our Heavenly Father.

Special thanks to the Administrative Committee and every person who was involved in any way, big or small. It is our prayer that Our Lord will grant Zion another 20 years with Pastor Griggs shepherding our flock. And then, another 20 years. And another….
